Teaching Philosophy
A 'commercial' illustrator
from Philadelphia once gave me a bit of advice when he said "Take care of your tools, and your tools will take care of you."
I endeavor to provide students creative opportunities to create art and visual communication built out of a thorough technical foundation which explores tools and techniques be they studio or digital.
Knowing your media is essential and requires research, experimentation, risk-taking, and critical thinking, but the creative results can be pure joy and are one of the things we strive to do that makes us human.
I also remember him saying to me:
"Art is long and life is short". The creative life continues to keep me motivated as it has and will do throughout time.
